The number of European companies that choose to support the initiative of the European Commission (EC) – Memorandum of understanding on online advertising and IPR increases.
The aim of the Memorandum is to reduce the advertisement on websites that violate intellectual property rights, such as illegal sports and movie streaming websites. In the text of the document the complexity and the magnitude of the commercial on the Internet and the fact that legitimate brands’ commercials, including betting companies, can be positioned in those websites.
More gaming associations and operators show interest in the initiative and want to protect their commercial. The Portuguese online gambling association – APAJO is the first national association that signed the Memorandum.
The European Gaming & Betting Association is among the founding signatory of the Memorandum in 2018. Since then to 2021 it has been reported that the commercial from leading gaming operators on illegal websites has decreased by 55%.
Maarten Haijer, Secretary General of EGBA, commented that the Association will continue to encourage betting companies and European associations to join the Memorandum of understanding and to ensure that their commercial is positioned responsibly and legally.
