Gambling industry revenues in Bulgaria reached BGN 392,340,915 in 2024, according to data from the Bulgarian Gaming Industry Association, based on information from the National Revenue Agency (NRA). Of this amount, BGN 392,242,101 were direct budget revenues, while BGN 98,814 were forcibly collected sums. Despite the closure of some gaming halls, the sector remains a stable source of budget revenue. According to data from the AGIB, with the addition of the amount collected from the alternative tax under the Corporate Income Tax Act, revenues exceed BGN 490 million.
As of January 8, 2025, there are 21 gaming casinos and 1,082 gaming halls with slot machines operating in the country, while no venues for numerical lottery games such as Bingo and Keno are active. The online gambling segment continues to expand, with the number of licensed operators reaching 51. Additionally, Bulgaria hosts 2,183 bookmaker outlets, six licensed land-based sports betting operators, and 53 gaming equipment manufacturers.
In 2024, 99 gaming halls with slot machines and one casino closed down. Over the past year, the number of registered gambling addicts in the country rose to 41,753. Throughout the year, the NRA conducted 136 inspections of betting and gambling establishments to ensure compliance with the Gambling Act, including preventing vulnerable individuals from participating in gambling activities.
Despite the decrease in the number of physical gaming venues, the gambling industry remains a key contributor to Bulgaria’s economy and continues to be one of the most stable sources of budget revenue.
