The change in tax rates for legal operators is lowering the quality of their product due to a lack of investment, thus expanding the black market in the gaming industry. Currently, the share of illegal online casinos in Germany has reached an incredible 80%, explained lawyer Joerg Hoffmann, one of the world’s leading experts on the illegal market, at the Balkan Entertainment and Gaming Expo (BEGE) and the accompanying Eastern European Gaming Summit (EEGS) on November 26th at the Inter Expo Center.
The most effective measure against illegal gambling is to stop payments, which, however, becomes ineffective given the introduction of cryptocurrencies, Hoffmann noted. Italy and Spain are doing well with limiting the access, but currently this is also easily overcome with VPN.
“The change in rules leads to a clear advantage for illegal operators,” Hoffmann added. “A minimal delay on one website makes people look for another one,” he is categorical.
